If you are like me you are prepping your wardrobe for spring, you are looking at the styles you will want to wear, what your calendar looks like, and the colors and trends you are loving.
Before heading out the door to go shopping, there are a few things I always try to do. They seem to make the whole experience better and I don’t feel like I am wasting my time and finding nothing I love.
Prep your body for the shopping trip.
You may be thinking WHAT? this seems silly but seriously. Have you ever gone to try on dresses, shorts, or other spring wear and you realize your legs are dry or unshaved and so nothing is looking the way you want? This happens to me all the time, especially because my color changes dramatically when I have lotion on than if my legs are “ashy”. If I prep my body for shopping I find I like a lot more things than when I don’t.
Do your hair and makeup.
Another one that may seem crazy – who wants to do their hair and makeup to go shopping – but it can make all the difference to see what it will look like when you wear it to an event or on a day to day basis. Plus, I find that when my hair and makeup is done I feel all around prettier and more confident which is always good when you are heading to shop.
Check Your Closet
Many of your spring and summer clothes have been hiding out for 6 months to a year! You are bound to forget in that time what all you have vs. what you need. Try on your shorts and tanks to make sure you still are liking the way they fit and take pictures so when you head into that dressing room it will be easier to pair your outfits.
It is always easier to get in and out if you not only know what you have at home but if you have an idea of what you are looking for when you are out. If you see a specific style or brand from a store online take a picture. That will help you get in and out quickly and helps me not to get overwhelmed when I walk into a large store. The great thing about online is so many stores have the option to see if it is available at your local store. That will save you time if you are only wanting that one thing from that store.
Think about your Underwear before you go
Have you ever headed into a store to try on a tank or a strapless top just to realize that you are wearing the wrong bra. Having the right bra on makes all the difference in what your outfit looks like and can affect if you like the piece or not.
My advice: Always go with a strapless bra when trying on for spring and summer. Since most things have thin to no straps it will help you really get the full picture of what you are trying on.
I hope these tips help make your spring shopping experience easy and fun. When you feel confident, have the right things on, and go in prepared your shopping experience will feel a lot less overwhelming.
